- 1951 – The Gold Coast Society for the Blind is established by the Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind.
- 1952 – The Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind purchases a plot of land for the Gold Coast Society for the Blind. This later becomes the Greater Accra Rehabilitation Center.
- 1953 – The Gold Coast Society for the Blind gains autonomy.
- 1953 – The Foundation stone for the Head Office building is laid
- 1957 – The name is changed from Gold Coast Society for the Blind to Ghana Society for the Blind (GSB).
- 1963 – The Ghana Association of the Blind (GAB) is established an interim executive is put in place.
- 1975 – GAB holds its first elections and the first elected President steps into office.
- 1981 – GSB establishes Women’s League (later metamorphosed into Women’s Wing by GAB in 1995)
- 1998 – GAB establishes Youth Wing
- 2001 – GSB introduces ICT for blind persons in Ghana and the first computer lab for blind persons is established.
- 2002 – GAB introduces tactile Ballot as a system of voting for Blind persons.
- 2008 – GAB establishes Sports and Recreation Wing.
- 2010 – GSB and GAB merge and the Ghana Blind Union (GBU) is born.
- 2014 – GBU elects its first female President.
